The tour encompasses the far east of Crete, first stop is in Sitia, still a quiet town with an atmosphere of hospitality. In Ano Zakros starts the 8 km long walk through a gorge named Valley of the Dead because of the caves towards the end, in which the Minoans burried their dead. The excavation of the Minoan Palace of Kato Zakros started the year of 1961 and continues to this day. |
